Kerry attends reception on UK aid

Home / News / News from Westminster / Kerry attends reception on UK aid

13 July 2017

I had conversations with Water Aid, Tearfund, Unicef, Christian Aid and others at this event and have also tabled four WPQs, to DfID, on the impact of poor water/ sanitation on education.

I asked the Secretary of State for International Development, what steps her Department is taking to ensure that water, sanitation and hygiene services are integrated into all her Department's education programmes and strategies. The Minister's answer, in which he endorsed a WASH approach, can be found here.

I also asked her whether the Government representative at the G20 Summit in July 2017 plans to raise the relationship between clean water and sanitation in schools and educational outcomes. The Minister's reply, in which he says that the UK did not raise these issues at the G20, can be found here.

I also asked the Secretary of State what steps her Department is taking to ensure that all UK-supported schools have access to water and sanitation. The Minister's response, including details about schools in Sierra Leone, can be found here.

I also asked what assessment her Department has made of the relationship between clean water and sanitation in schools and school attendance in developing countries. The Minister's answer, which identifies funding for studies into this link, can be found here.
