I am pleased that DEFRA have awarded Bristol and South Gloucestershire Councils almost £500,000 to assess and design a Clean Air Zone for the Bristol area.
Improving air quality has been unanimously supported by a vote at Full Council – a clear consensus on the urgent need to clean up the air which we all breathe.
Air pollution, particularly near the main traffic routes in and out of the city, is unacceptably high and the risk to our public health is undeniable.
I sit on the EFRA and Environmental Audit Committees in Parliament, and hope to be part of the joint inquiry with Transport and Health select committees to look at air pollution.
